Junior Youth Moral Empowerment Program
Junior Youth: Junior youth refers to a special group, ranging in age from 11 to 15, with special needs as they are somewhat between childhood and youth when many changes are occurring within them.
Moral: Moral refers to the universal moral concepts common to all faiths and traditions that exist in the world today, such as truthfulness, unity, justice, cooperation, service to humanity, striving for excellence, and relying on God for guidance and assistance.
Empowerment: Empowerment means to assist young people to take ownership of their personal development and to build capacity for meaningful social action in their communities.
The curriculum: revolves around stories that touch on moral concepts, on which the junior youth consult. This helps them to develop the ability to express themselves and their thoughts. The materials have been developed, piloted and adopted in junior youth groups around the world. Their relevance goes beyond cultural or religious boundaries, and they seek to help junior youth develop an intellectual and spiritual framework with which to approach their path in life.
Service: the junior youth discuss and decide on service projects as a group, based on the needs of their community. Examples of these service projects are the following: beautification projects, creating community gardens, toy drives, helping the elderly, community clean-up, etc.
Extra-curricular activities: different forms of arts and crafts, sports & recreational trips are an integral part of the junior youth group. These help junior youth learn skills, foster talents and learn about the world around them.
Animators!
(Who? Young Adult Mentors!)
Groups are led by young adults who have continued training and support. They grow to be mentors for the program. In the groups that they help to start, they engage participants in meaningful conversations, arts and crafts, and youth-led service projects.
Mentors also build friendships with parents and gain practical skills such as lesson planning and coordination. Our program is inspired and sponsored by the Baha’i Faith - it thrives through the participation and contribution of people from diverse backgrounds and is open to all.
